CMZ B.R.A. CAMPAIGN PROJECT ARTWORKS @ 2014-2015

It has been a year since the CMZ B.R.A. (Bra to Raise Awareness) Campaign Project was launched and up to this day, April 4, 2015, we have put up 5 main artworks and 3 B.R.A. Art Exhibits.

We would like to thank nationally and internationally known Zamboanga Artist, Rameer Tawasil for bringing up the idea of using art and brassieres as the medium for the CMZ Breast Awareness advocacy... so unique and innovative, indeed! 

Among the main issues during our initial discussions is the acceptance of brassieres  as the medium... 
1) If the bras could trigger negative feedback from conservative women, religious and Muslim groups...
2) If the bras themselves will not be acceptable when displayed in public...
3) If our own government leaders could not accept the B.R.A. Installation artwork as itself!

Definitely, if there were negative feedbacks, the purpose of the advocacy would be defeated.

Somehow, on our own evaluation, we realized that beautifully decorated bras would more likely not draw malicious thoughts but instead would be appreciated as art, of course, with the person of an artist, Rameer Tawasil as our key.

Art No. 1 Ciudad De Zamboanga B.R.E.A.S.T. (Bra to Raise Early Awareness for Screening and Treatment) Installation Art

Installation Art (from Wikipedia) is an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that are often site-specific and designed to transform the perception of a space.

Installation art can be either temporary or permanent. Installation artworks have been constructed in exhibition spaces such as museums and galleries, as well as public and private spaces. The genre incorporates a broad range of everyday and natural materials, which are often chosen for their "evocative" qualities, as well as new media such as video, sound, performance, immersive virtual reality and the internet. Many installations are site-specific in that they are designed to exist only in the space for which they were created, appealing to qualities evident in a three-dimensional immersive medium.

The CMZ-BWC brings this giant bra around during our CMZ BRAngay Project activities.

It is amazing how the CMZ B.R.A. Campaign Project has grown and developed to what it is now!

The CMZ Breast Wellness Center hopes that more and more people, especially the women of Zamboanga City would get to know more about Breast Wellness and learn to:

LOVE THEIR BREASTS.

LENT 2015: GOOD FRIDAY WAY OF THE CROSS @ MCIC

Here is a glimpse of the Stations of the Cross for the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception this Holy Week 2015.

Stations of the Cross (or Way of the Cross; in Latin, Via Crucis) refers to a series of images depicting Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion and also to the prayers Christians say when contemplating those images. Often a series of 14 images will be arranged in numbered order around a church nave or along a path, and the faithful travel from image to image, in order, stopping at each "station" to say the selected prayers and reflections. This will be done individually or in groups.

For the longest time this tradition had been existing, and families and groups have been sharing their time and talent to prepare for the different stations of the cross around the MCIC-Ateneo De Zambaonga block through La Purisima, Campaner, Nunez Street and Governor Alvarez.

The stations are up by about 3 to 4 a.m. and waiting for the Way of the Cross at 5 a.m.  The preparations are not necessarily extravagant considering the Lenten theme.

LENT 2015: HOLY THURSDAY @ ABONG-ABONG

As the tradition in Zamboanga City, most of the devotees would find their way to Abong-Abong, Pasonanca to go up the Stations of the Cross until they reach the Cruz Mayor.

It is now quite late and the devotees are now in Abong Abong. It seems so congested but the reason is the bottleneck.

For security reasons, the devotees have to be checked by the police before they can enter the area, which is actually still a few kilometers from the Cruz Mayor up in the hill. With the thousands of devotees there, we would wonder when all of them can go through, through the few queues (I think about three lines) where they can pass.

I believe the devotees don't mind this because they too want to be safe as they pray and reflect on God's words and experience for the "WAY OF THE CROSS" or the "VIA CRUCIS".

From our vantage point, this is the Cruz Mayor on Holy Thursday 2015.

LENT 2015: PALM SUNDAY @ FORT PILAR SHRINE ZAMBOANGA CITY

It is Palm Sunday... start of the Holy Week!

 Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four canonical Gospels.

In the Philippines, communities re-enact Jesus' triumphal entry with a procession. A statue of Christ astride a donkey (the humenta) or the officiating priest on horseback processes around or towards the local church along with congregants bearing ornately woven palaspas (palm branches). In some towns, elderly women spread heirloom tapis ("aprons" made for this sole purpose) or large cloths along the route. Children dressed as angels sometimes sing the Osana ("Hosanna") whilst strewing flowers about.

Once blessed, the palaspas are taken home by the faithful and placed on altars or hung beside, on, or above doorways and windows. Although the true purpose of this custom is to welcome Christ, many Filipinos hold the fronds to be apotropaic, able to banish evil spirits, avert lightning, and prevent fires. There is also a folk tradition of feeding pieces of the palm leaves to roosters for sabong (cockfighting), a practise that was strongly discouraged by the Archbishop of Manila, Luis Antonio Tagle.^{[citation needed]}

We celebrated Palm Sunday at the Fort Pilar Shrine here in Zamboanga City.

Today, I was invited to the opening of RAMEER TAWASIL's 8th SOLO EXHIBIT at the Lantaka Hotel By The Sea!

I would like to share his great art using mixed-media by sharing his paintings here. But, what is intriguing with Rameer Tawasil is not only his heart and his hands, but his brain as well!

Imagine, by the title itself, "THE POETRY OF THE SEA BUTTERFLIES"  where he uses the metaphor of the Sea Butterflies to  the Zamboanga City icon, the VINTA!
