40th Nutrition Month Celebration successfully Launched inZamboanga City
The
National Nutrition Council Regional Office 9 together with the members of the
Regional Nutrition Committee joined the city of Zamboanga on the Launching of
the 40th Nutrition Month Celebration.
The activity started with a motorcade around the city proper and ended up to
the west coast Barangay Tulungatung, one of the transitory sites where evacuees
of the Zamboanga siege were transferred.
Key
personalities were present during the launching of the nutrition month.
Congress Woman Lilia M. Nuño and Mayor Isabelle “Beng” Climaco gave their
message. Present also during the activity were Dr. Rodelin M. Agbulos, City
Health Officer and City Nutrition Action Officer, Hon. Ester F. Del Rosario
Barangay Chairperson, Dr. Ruth Yanga of Department of Education, other
organization like Nutritionist-Dietitian’s Association of the Philippines
(NDAP) and the Academe.
Several activities were conducted like the launching of the 6 months dairy milk feeding for 300 school children IDP’s in Barangay Tulungatung and awarding of the graduates of Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) and Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM) Children.

Ms.
Nimfa D. Ekong of NNC 9 presented the 2014 Nutrition Month talking points with
the theme “Kalamidad Paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan!” She emphasized
the importance of preparedness during emergencies, how to respond and what
recovery measures can be taken to prevent death and worsening of malnutrition
of affected population groups. Likewise she also stated and called on the
nutrition partners to join hands and be organized. Because being organized
during times of disasters and calamities can prevent hunger and malnutrition.
Together working for nutrition can truly “Build Back Better Zamboanga.”
