LENT: CRUZ MAYOR @ APRIL 2014

It is Holy Thursday 2014 today.
During Holy Thursday, many Catholic devotees flock to the Abong-abong (Pasonanca) Stations of the Cross and reaching all the way up to the Cruz Mayor.
People of all ages do their sacrifice through a long walk from the Pasonanca or the Tumaga side.
Mount Pulong Bato (where the Via Crucis and the Cruz Mayor
are situated and Muruk is the adjacent mountain

At about 1 pm, we were on our way to Murok (the other way). I see Mt. PulongBato from afar. The very minute white speck is actually the Crus Mayor!

There weren't so many people in Abong-abong yet!

The sun is sunny and the weather is fine.
There weren't so many devotees yet at the Cruz Mayor.

At night.
We went down at night and we saw so many devotees walk all the way to Abong-Abong.
Since it was one-way, we have to go in through Pasonanca and go out through the Tumaga side.

This is at the Tumaga side at about 10 p.m. Most are young people but we also see folks carrying their babies and kids. There are older people who also keep their devotion.
The devotees walking towards Abong-Abong

On our way back, we passed by the Pasonanca side.
This is the view as we go to Pasonanca...
we already see the lights of the Via Crucis and the Cruz Mayor.
The other mountain with lights is Muruk!

This is at the Abong-Abong side, where we see many devotees...young and old alike... some are still on the way and some are already done!

This is close to the Helmet and many are just sitting by the steps
leading to the Helmet (missed the shot) and
the pictures below lead towards the Boy Scout Camp.
It is almost midnight and there are many people at this time...

The Cruz Mayor now shows more activity, although, I feel there are less devotees than last year!
Cruz Mayor at night

After the Via Crucis and reaching the Cruz Mayor, people gather at the Boy Scout Camp Grounds in Abong-Abong/Muruk to rest, to bond and others really stay overnight.
It is now time to post where they are last Holy Thursday!
Do you see the bright lights of the cellphones and the tablets!?!

It is Good Friday at about 6:30 a.m. and the sun is up!

I feel the crowd still not as dense as in the prior years.

But what is important is our own individual call for prayer and sacrifice during the Lenten Season.

Have a Blessed Lenten Season!

P.S.
Here are my older posts on Lent at Abong-Abong and Murok, Zamboanga City.

MUROK CHALLENGE 2.0 ON APRIL 27, 2014

This is the view of done-shaped PulongBato on the right
and Murok on the left!
As we mentioned in our previous post, ACS Guidelines for Nutrition and Physical Activity for Cancer Prevention, a physically active lifestyle is beneficial for our health.
CMZ runners in a past running challenge!

Running is seen to be one exercise which may be indulged in by almost anyone, with less expense. That is, unless you splurge on your running get-up and accessories!

This Sunday, April 27, 2014, Zamboanga City is up for a really challenging hill run, the MUROK CHALLENGE 2.0 sponsored by the Zamboanga Runners' Club of which the Program Director of the CMZ Breast Wellness Center, Dr. Marissa Marquez-Lim is one of the active officers.

The elevation that the runners may reach in Murok is about 1000  - 1200 feet above sea level.
Registration now open every afternoon at 5 til race day at butterfly farm, pasonanca. Limited stocks of dri-fit event shirt

Well, this activity has its twists! The runners have to finish the route within the cut-off time!

The Zamboanga Runners' Club is looking forward to you joining this hill run!

Another challenge of this hill run is the time for practice. If one runs after office hours, be prepared because Murok has no street lights and so by the time you are running the 9.5 km. from the Pasonanca Butterfly Garden to the end point in Murok and back to the Butterfly Garden, it  may get really dark and Juvee and Ronald (two of the runners from CMZ) said that you may bump into other runners in the dark!

Anyway, the run starts at 5:30 a.m. and you would have enough light by then.

Good luck to the organizing committe and to all runners!!!
Have an enjoyable run!

P.S. This is not a CMZ activity and I am not one of the runners...

More B.R.A. Art from the CMZ B.R.A. A.R.T. Workshop

For those who have followed my blog, you must have a B.R.A. overdose by now. But, I guess that is advocacy is all about, right?!

Advocacy is the act or process of supporting a cause or proposal.*

Health advocacy supports and promotes patient's health care rights as well as enhance community health and policy initiatives that focus on the availability, safety and quality of care.**

The CMZ B.R.A. (Bra to Raise Awareness) Campaign Project advocates for Breast Wellness and Breast Cancer Awareness using old and used brassieres and using ART as the medium.

We had two CMZ B.R.A. A.R.T. (Act Right Together) workshops where CMZ staff, then, with partners in the community joined hands to create fabulous bra art from old and used bras. Along the way, many were inspired to continue to create embellished bras.

We had the "Borloloy Buffet" which is another term for "Blings Buffet"available for participants to choose their art materials then come up with their concepts.

The products of the CMZ B.R.A. A.R.T. workshop are used for the Ciudad De Zamboanga B.R.E.A.S.T. (Bra to Raise Early Awareness for Screening and Technology) Installation Art, but because of very innovative creations, we also have the CMZ B.R.A. Art Exhibit for the chosen embellished bras.

In this post, I will share with you many of the individual decorated bras in several collages using InstaMag. Some of these bras may be viewed with the CMZ B.R.A. Art Exhibit and the others are now part of the  B.R.E.A.S.T. Installation Art.

We have Decorated Bras from our CMZ Staff and Nurse Trainees. We have about 200 bra art from the Hemodialysis Unit; about 50 decorated bras from Medical Records / Rehab Unit group; about 28 from Radiology and about 15 from the OR/DR/NICU group.

We have partners in the community especially, from the Breast Cancer Survivor group (Mindanao Breast Cancer Support and Empowerment Association); our partners in health = Department of Health Region IX, Oficina De Salud, PhilHealth; Western Mindanao Command; our school partners = Ateneo De Zamboanga University, Universidad De Zamboanga, Brent Hospital and Colleges and Nuevo Zamboanga Colleges Inc.; our friends from the banking industry = PNB and Metrobank.

And of course, we have the support of our friends from other parts of the Philippines: Elsie Cubero Lim from the Cebu City Budget Office (pink floral bra); Dr. Joy Santos-De Leon and family from Bocaue, Bulacan (silver bra with teddy bear) and Prescy Valenzuela Yulo of Skin Rejuve with six Manila branches.

Most of all, my friends from Brunei/Singapore also sent bra art made by Molly Yap's daughter, Elene who is 14 years old!

Here is more from our CMZ staff/trainees and from partners in the community...

Ciudad De Zamboanga B.R.E.A.S.T. Installation Art: UP CLOSE!

The City of Zamboanga is so proud to present the Ciudad De Zamboanga B.R.E.A.S.T. Installation Art, which was finally unveiled last March 21, 2014.*

B.R.E.A.S.T. means Bra to Raise Early Awareness for Screening and Treatment.

The Ciudad De Zamboanga B.R.E.A.S.T. Installation Art is the creation of Sulu-born International Artist, Rameer Tawasil together with Zamboanga artists, Ciudad Medical Zamboanga staff and partners in the community.

There is a total of 1268 bras making up this B.R.E.A.S.T. Installation Art with this breakdown:
= = = 508 decorated bras for the giant bra cups and straps.
 = = = 164 colored bras for the breast-shaped backdrop.
= = = 308 black bras for the whole stage floor.
= = = 288 black bras for the three sides of the stage.
Rameer Tawasil together with the GIANT BRA made up of colorful, decorated bras!!!

Last February 7 and March 12, 2014 were CMZ B.R.A. (Bra to Raise Awareness) Art Workshops with our staff as well as friends partners  in the Zamboanga City community who shared in the making of the wonderfully decorated bras! **

There were about 550 bras as a result of the two workshops and more were done after the workshop! There were contributions of Art bras from local artists (with Rameer Tawasil) and those which were mailed in from other places in the Philippines and with international participation, too!***

Thus, we can proudly call this an ART WORK of the ZAMBOANGA COMMUNITY deserving to be dubbed CIUDAD DE ZAMBOANGA B.R.E.A.S.T. INSTALLATION ART!

Chosen embellished bra art are now on display in Lantaka Hotel and soon in other parts of Zamboanga City while most of the art bras are part of this innovative public installation art!****

Here are close-up shots of this Advocacy Art: Can you identify which decorated bras were made by you?

As we appreciate this Ciudad De Zamboanga B.R.E.A.S.T. Installation Art, let also think of the fertile minds, creative hearts and skilled hands of our partners in Zamboanga City and our friends from other parts of the Philippines and abroad, who gave their time, talent and treasure for the noble advocacy of BREAST WELLNESS and BREAST CANCER AWARENESS through ART!
